REKS ft. Styles P - Why Cry
- Artist: REKS
- Track: Why Cry
- Feat. Styles P
- Producer: The Alchemist
- Album: R.E.K.S. (Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme)
Though his last project, In Between the Lines (Vol. 2), has been a regular visitor to our Mixtape Chart, it's been a few months since we actually heard something new from Boston mainstay REKS. Surely our favorite hip-hop malcontent has found a few more bones to pick since last November? Indeed he has. On album leak Why Cry, the grey-haired emcee once again gives the game a piece of his mind. Over The Alchemist's off-kilter beat, an ominous blend of queasy strings and boom-bap percussion, REKS bemoans our lack of true revolutionaries, laying the blame on a culture of superficiality and materialism. D-Block member Styles P seconds that emotion on the record's latter half, shaking his head at today's misguided youth: “They got me trippin' cause they don't know tradition, or they don't know addition, just new clothes, but they know the limited edition of a new whip...” Think the collaborators have a point? You'll be able to show your support in person March 18, when REKS rocks the stage at our Booth-sponsored Austin, Texas showcase The Rising. In addition, be sure to cop his latest album, Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme, when it drops on March 8.
