If you’ve been binging on the World Cup this past week like a Lindsay Lohan at an open bar and are a little tired of listening to Shakira sing, The Roots are here to kick off your week with some freshness. Their latest single, The Fire, is masterfully produced (in-house, of course), by lacing together piano keys, John Legend’s always-talented vocals (see previous Roots/Legend collabo Doin’ It Again) and Questlove’s drum work to create the fuel that drives Blackthought’s upbeat lyrical momentum throughout the song. The beat isn’t the only promising part of the track, as Thought does what he does best by delivering his trademark brand of deep and uplifting lyricism: “I realize I’m supposed to reach for the sky, never let somebody try to tell you otherwise.” If this track's fire left you feeling hot and bothered, be sure to check out their latest project, How I Got Over, out June 22. Now go to bed so you’ll be well rested for that Brazil game you’ve been looking forward to. God I love the World Cup.
