Sid Sriram - Superstar
- Artist: Sid Sriram
- Track: Superstar
- Producer: Sid Sriram
- Album: West Coast Nightfall Pt. 1
As the eclectic array of sounds and styles on display in his work suggest, Sid Sriram's record collection isn't limited to hip-hop and R&B. Rock, both old and new, is also a key component in the Bay Area singer/songwriter/producer's musical diet. On the latest single off his recent, DJBooth-hosted EP, the artist puts his own spin on Superstar, a classic single from '70s hitmakers The Carpenters. While retaining the its instantly recognizable melody, Sriram drastically alters the song's tone. In place of the original's melancholy soft-rock backdrop, the artist serves up a spare pizzicato-string verse groove, allowing his emotionally-charged vocals to take center stage. On the hook, the beat opens up into a more expansive, keyboard-driven arrangement. Doom&Gloom directs the record's evocative official visuals.
