Soul Khan ft. Akie Bermiss - Not Like That

DJBooth_logo2x
  • Artist: Soul Khan
  • Track: Not Like That
  • Producer: Deejay Element
  • Album: Wellstone EP

To quote the late, great Tupac Shakur, “Since we all came from a woman / Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman... I think it's time to kill for our women / Time to heal our women, be real to our women.Soul Khan concurs—and on a stand out cut off his new, DJBooth-sponsored EP, he speaks out against the unexamined misogynism that still runs rampant not just in hip-hop, but in the culture at large. Backed by project collaborator DeeJay Element's soulfully raw sample work, the Brown Bag All Star shakes his head at dudes' childish attitudes towards the opposite sex. And he's not just paying lip service, unlike so many other emcees, he's willing to bring his vocabulary in line with his values: “When a man afraid, I don't say he's a p*ssy / It's 2011 and you ain't eatin' p*ssy?” Singer Akie Bermiss drives the message home on the hook, telling his own girl “It's an honor just be be with you."
