Spree Wilson ft. Novel - Transition

DJBooth_logo2x
  • Artist: Spree Wilson
  • Track: Transition
  • Producer: Paolo Sheehy
  • Album: The Never Ending Now

After indie-pop banger I Believe She's Lying and the soulfully subdued Don't Pass Me By, some may have forgotten that Spree Wilson's not just a skilled singer, but also a Southern rapper. Today, the Evil Angel returns to refresh your memory with Transition, a tuneful track chronicling his coming-of-age in the industry. Paolo “Shoeden1” Sheehy reprises his role behind the boards, blending mellow bass, acoustic-guitar strumming and a laid-back bassline into a warm instrumental backdrop for the artist's bouncy flows. Lyrically, Spree keeps things fresh and unpredictable, addressing himself in the third-person on verse one and dropping what may well be rap's first Naked Lunch reference on the back. On the hook, the headliner is joined by a fellow ATL-based musical chameleon; Booth fave (and freestyle series alum) Novel hops on board to contribute some characteristically luxuriant vocals to the chorus. Like what you're hearing? Then keep it locked for all the latest on Spree Wilson's The Never Ending Now LP, which has yet to receive a release date from the Jive brass.
