Shady/Aftermath artist Stat Quo drops a new track from his long-anticipated (almost as long as Detox-- 2003) album, Statlanta. On G.R.I.T.S. (an acronym for Girls Raised In The South), Stat tries a valuable, yet very underrated aspect of hip-hop: storytelling. He paints a vivid picture about his attraction to the girls of the South, as well as a specific encounter he had with one special girl. Using his addictive Southern drawl and whimsical wordplay, he keeps you listening until the story concludes. The soft Dr. Dre-esque beats of Aftermath producers Dawaun Parker, Che Vicious & Mark Batson provide a unique accompaniment to the story while not taking away the true focus. Stat Quo offers up similar work on his debut, Statlanta, set to drop this Fall.
