Talib Kweli ft. Chris Webby & Joell Ortiz - Purest Heart

With some ensemble bangers, you can glance over the lineup and immediately see why these particular emcees ended up collaborating. East Coast indie label Bottom Feeder Music's debut single and first Booth feature... not so much. Any doubts about the artistic chemistry between Big Apple veteran Talib Kweli, Connecticut buzzmaker Chris Webby and Slaughterhouse spitter Joell Ortiz will be allayed soon after you press play on Purest Heart. Backed by the syncopated percussion and chopped vocal samples of Jeremy Greene, the aforementioned rhymesayers go H.A.M. on the mic, each trying to one-up the last's aggressive, braggadocious bars. As for who came out on top, I leave it for you to decide. Bottom Feeder's Gorilla State EP as yet lacks a drop date, but we'll keep you posted on the compilation as further details emerge.
