Talib Kweli - The Wormhole

Nothing makes me groan like hearing an otherwise-intelligent rapper go off on a half-baked tirade about the Illuminati. Apparently, I'm not the only one. In the opening bars of The Wormhole, the lead single off his next full-length, Talib Kweli brusquely brushes aside his peers' attempts to “drop knowledge,” telling them to, “Save the ghost stories for the kids.” He then proceeds to show them what real knowledge sounds like, arguing that Adam Weishaupt and the Bavarian Illuminati were actually freedom fighters against an oppressive church and state. On the back, he offers his take on whom we should be afraid of—namely, “the Federal Reserve, the World Bank and the IMF.” Underground mainstay Oh No provides a stark, swung beat to accompany Kweli's thought-provoking bars. Gravitas is scheduled to drop independently on Sunday, December 15. In the meantime, fans are encouraged to check out his guest contribution to Marco Polo's recently-featured G.U.R.U.
