The title of the new Ugly Heroes cut, Hero’s Theme, might lead you to believe that the record is superhuman or larger than life, but its inspiration is surprisingly down-to-Earth. According to the Mello Music Group trio, “The origin of Ugly Heroes stems from Apollo Brown wanting to do a heavy blue collar album that paints a real picture of life out there….a record that paints life as it is today for a lot of the working poor.” Over Brown's jazzy boardwork, emcees Red Pill and Verbal Kent get their hands dirty, spitting bars dedicated to the average Joe. Their raw flows are splashed with just a touch of finesse to match the beat's fluttering piano. For more authentic, no-nonsense hip-hop, check out the group's self-titled collaborative debut, released today.
