Village of Pharaohs may be royalty in the North Carolina hip-hop scene but, unlike their Egyptian namesakes, they've had to build their pyramids on the sweat of their own brows. On the latest single off the quartet's next independent full-length, making its world premiere in the Booth, crew members MMA and IV League step back and gaze on the massive edifice they've been assembling, one lyrical brick at a time. In between snapshots of their hustle, they take time out to denounce the current regime of social and political inequality: “Tell these politicians they don't need more legislation / to enforce the segregation they enforcin' on my people.” Veteran producer Ski Beatz backs their thoughtful bars with a smaple from UK singer/songwriter Fyfe's St. Tropez. Feeling it? Then watch our pages for more fresh cuts leading up to the November 12, arrival of the Pharaohs' new album, Pharaodysseus (1996 A.D.).
