Willie The Kid ft. Termanology - No Reissue

DJBooth_logo2x

“Original rhymes, original samples” is hardly the most fleshed-out concept for a hip-hop project but, as we learned last week when the artist stepped into the Booth with the inaugural leak, sometimes a Cornucopia of dope flows and hot beats is all you need. Thus, you can take it as a compliment when I say that release numeró deux, No Reissue, is more of the same. Here, the Michigan native (and freestyle series alumnus) looks to David Axelrod's 1968 debut, Songs of Experience for inspiration, passing up the oft-sampled Holy Thursday to rhyme over a slightly moodier cut, The Smile. Willie matches the beat's intensity with some appropriately determined rhymes, intercutting jet-setting visions of excess (“Catch me out in Hungary, hung the f*ck over, Courvoisier, 'cause they don't sell Hennessy everywhere in Europe.”) with declarations of his devotion to his paper chase. Boston underground mainstay Termanology guests, lacing the back with some high-rolling fantasies of his own. Craving more all-original yet retro-informed tuneage from Willie the Kid? Then get ready to dig through The Crates on August 2, when the artist's latest street release hits the 'net.
