Wrekonize - We Got Soul
- Artist: Wrekonize
- Track: We Got Soul
- Producer: Seven
- Album: The War Within
Wrekonize's forthcoming solo debut is titled The War Within, but introspection isn't all that's on the menu. As he reveals on We've Got Soul, resolving his “subconscious drama” also involves taking stock of the world around him. Backed by Seven's martial percussion rhythm and grimy electronic flourishes, the ¡MAYDAY! rhymesayer looks back on his struggle to attain credibility as a white rapper. On verse two, he takes aim at hip-hop's obsession with the Illuminati and other conspiratorial bogeymen, spitting, ”Don't let them take you down with fairytales and masonry / 'Cause most the time it ain't half as true as what you think it be.” The accompanying visuals, directed by Wrek in conjunction with Garcia, offer a stripped-down depiction of the emcee in action. Fans will be able to find We've Got Soul, the DJBooth-premiered Freak and many more quality cuts on Wrekonize's freshman full-length, dropping June 25, via Strange Music.
