Well, that didn't take very long.

Kendrick Lamar's new album, To Pimp a Butterfly, has achieved a score of 96 on Metacritic, a website that aggregates reviews of music albums from major newpapers, magazines and digital publishers.

According to the website, a Metascore "distills the opinions of the most respected critics writing online and in print to a single number." In the case of TPAB, that number, 96, now represents the highest rated hip-hop LP of all-timeThat is not a misprint. All. Time.

Thanks to perfect marks from 11 outlets, including New York Daily NewsConsequence of Sound and Spin, as well as near-perfect marks from 26 others, the TDE superstar's third full-length album moved past the previous all-time leader, Stankonia by Outkast.

The much-discussed new opus, which has already broken several single day Spotify streaming records, officially sold 318,988 copies in the first week after release.

Are critics and reviewers being prisoners of the musical moment, or is TPAB already among the greatest bodies of work ever made?
