Holy Sh*t You Need to Watch This Woman Lose It Over Vince Staples Lyrics
I’m sure by now that you’ve all seen the video of the Christian mom freaking out about the lyrics in Vince Staples’ record “Norf Norf,” but can we talk about it?
In the video, the young woman goes on a tirade about the song, which she says was played on her local Top 40 radio station, the station her eldest daughter likes.
The mom mentions that she prefers the Christian station, also commenting that while growing up, she listened to Top 40, like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys, and N’SYNC. Yet, she never once heard anyone who sounds or looks like Vince Staples? Questionable.
Still, when “Norf Norf” came on the radio, mom definitely wasn’t pleased.
“I couldn’t even believe the words that I was listening to. And as a mom, it infuriated me. Like why is this on here? Like obviously the cuss words were bleeped out but I’m not stupid. Like we can dictate what they’re saying, right? Like I started to get tears in my eyes, it upset me so much. And my 11-year-old daughter listens to this radio station. Uh-uh, never again will she listen to this.”
“This is what our youth is being subjected to,” she says, “We need to pray, we need to pray guys, for our youth.”
She reads the lyrics to “Norf Norf” out loud amid tears, even saying the n-word, I guess to further prove her point. Sadly, she misinterprets Staples’ intent entirely. To think, a simple trip to Genius could have saved her from internet infamy.
“Norf Norf” is a far cry from what she probably considers gangsta rap or street rap and, while there's nothing glamorous about Staples’ lyrics, the song exposes the realities of his city—a city mom knows nothing about.
Enough about mom, though. How about Vince Staples getting Top 40 radio spins?
