August Alsina ft. Young Jeezy - Make It Home

August Alsina may be an R&B singer, but he’s more firmly rooted in the struggle than 99 percent of rappers in the game. On Make It Home, a brand new single off his Def Jam debut album, the buzzmaking crooner looks back on the years he spent dodging shots, hustling on the block and fleeing the Five-O. Though he recognizes the costs of the street life (August’s brother, Melvin LaBranch III, was shot down just days before the artist’s 18th birthday.), he remains unapologetic about his past, explaining, “I gotta keep it real with you baby, ‘cause the sh*t that I did is what made me.” Veteran trapper Jeezy jumps on The Featherstones’ slow-burning synth beat to reflect on his own mortality in an introspective closing 16. For this poignant jam and much more, cop August Alsina’s TESTIMONY LP when it hits record stores and online retailers on Tuesday, April 15.
