Avery Storm - Tell Me
Avery Storm‘s last Booth feature, a cover of Miike Snow‘s Animal, gave us a foretaste of what the singer/songwriter could do when it was just him and an acoustic guitar. Spare and haunting, his version of the record brought out a level of emotional depth only hinted at in the original. Now, on the latest single off his independent studio debut, he applies a similar strategy to one of his own compositions—with similarly intimate, arresting results. On Tell Me, a percussive guitar strum is the sole accompaniment to Storm’s verses, which find him apologizing for his missteps in a past relationship, and pleading with her to let him back into her life. Only a few subtle effects and Avery’s overdubbed harmonies testify to the fact that the joint was a studio production rather than a candid, live performance. An unknown director amplifies the cut’s effect with some candid, understated official visuals. For this poignant jam and much more, cop the artist’s On the Line EP when it hits record stores and online retailers October 16.
