Curly Castro - They Call Me Castro

Producer:
Blueprint
Album:

On Coal, the lead single off his Booth-hosted digital album Curly Castro took us all the way back to his school days to reflect on the psychological effects of coming up in a racially polarized environment. Stressful as they may have been, those formative years helped to forge him into the hardened hip-hop revolutionary we meet on follow-up single They Call Me Castro.  Over Blueprint‘s grimy horn loops, the Flatbush repper revisits a few more of the factors behind his radicalization, from his incarceration at the age of 16 to his encounters with the music of Chuck D and the ideas of Bobby Seale. Philly-based director Joe Castro draws from the emcee’s more recent past on the visual tip, documenting his involvement with the Occupy movement. Watch for FIDEL to hit our front page for free streaming and download next Tuesday, February 19, via Man Bites Dog records.
