Curtiss King ft. Pheo & Ramone Jones - Ren & Stimpy

Producer:
Curtiss King
Album:
Snick @ Nite

Ah, Ren & Stimpy... the cartoon my parents never let me watch (also verboten: Batman, Full House, Step By Step...). Yeah, I was a little bit sheltered. Fortunately, Curtiss King‘s first Booth feature requires no prior knowledge of the classic animated series. This standout mixtape cut sees the Inland Empire native showcasing his skills on the mic and behind the boards, serving up a bouncy instrumental sampled from the show’s theme song (titled Dog Pound Hop and performed by animator Jim Smith, if anyone was wondering) as he and two fellow up-and-comers deliver bars laced with imaginative braggadocio. After the headliner’s energetic opening contribution, Moreno Valley native Pheo steps up to the mic, admitting that he hasn’t got “dough, a nice crib and a whip” but promising to leave listeners “so satisfied [they] could cheer for a year.Ramone Jones switches up the flow with a wordplay-heavy closing verse: “I’m going balls-out like a physical / Kiss my ass like it’s under a mistletoe.” If you, too, spent your childhood vegging out in front of the television, more nostalgic thrills await on King’s Nickelodeon-themed Snick @ Nite mixtape, released in December ‘09 and available now online.
