Breaking up is always hard; even if two people are miserable together, ripping off that band-aid is guaranteed to cause some degree of pain and suffering. Just ask Bronx emcee and exclusive freestyle series participant D-Black (not to be confused with D.Black), who tells the story of a fairytale romance that turned into the relationship from hell on No Ordinary Love, the latest single off beatsmith Illmind‘s new Blaps, Rhymes & Beats (Vol 4) mixtape. Backed by the Jersey producer’s tension-fraught synth/organ boardwork (featuring a hook sampled from Sade’s track of the same name), Black details his former girl’s descent into paranoia and plate-slinging violence, concluding, “If I had a mulligan, I would leave shorty at first sign she just might pull a Jaz Sullivan.” It’s harrowing stuff, but the ultimate effect is cathartic, and the track should strike a chord with those who’ve found themselves in similar situations – and if you currently are in a similar situation, for the love of God, get out! For more hot beats and high-caliber collaborations, grab a copy of Illmind’s latest street album, released today and available now online.
