If you find yourself shivering after listening to DJBooth newcomer David VersisThe Coldest, it likely isn’t because your untrusty heater is on the fritz. If it wasn’t evident in the title of the record, let me assure you that the Toronto-based rhymesayer’s latest offering is quite the cold cut and we’re not talking deli sandwiches. The emcee sets the frigid tone of the record in the song’s introductory hook where he boasts, “Cold-blooded with cold hearts, but we can’t help it all we do is go hard yeah/ Yeah we some cold motherf**kers, yeah we some cold motherf**kers.” Heavy on the guitar, the production on the record, which is also provided by Versis, is no-nonsense and gives the The Coldest a slightly ominous vibe. If you can take the chill, you can find The Coldest on both YouTube and the Canadian emcee’s P.S.A.L.M.S. project, which was released back in July.
