Dillan Ponders - XXX

Posted 2 years ago
Producer:
Tay Lewis
Album:
NUMB EP

Last we heard from Dillan Ponders, on January’s reader-acclaimed HIVE, the T-Dot buzzmaker was looking to music for relief as he strove to kick his chemical dependencies. On first listening to his latest single, XXX, I thought that he’d changed his mind, as the cut contains lines like, “I pop beans and I love cocaine, I realize that that sh*t won’t change.” But I had it twisted—the record is off his last project, 2013’s Numb. With that said, this joint is far from a pro-drug anthem. Tay Lewis sets a nightmarish mood behind the boards, lacing his beat with squirrely synth arpeggios and cold, metallic whirs. Ponders takes a similarly dark approach on the lyrical tip, spitting about his affection for narcotics one moment, predicting that they’ll land him in an early grave the next. On the subject of things potentially hazardous to your health, Switch Media‘s frenetic, strobing visuals begin with a strongly-worded warning to sufferers of photosensitive epilepsy. For XXX and more moody bangers, check out the aforementioned EP, available for download via the artist’s Bandcamp.
