DJBooth Freestyle Series (#26)

Oft imitated but never equaled, the DJBooth Freestyle Series ran from February 2009 through June 2011. Its 250 total entries were the work of a veritable who’s-who of underground and emerging emcees, including rising stars like Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. Now, it’s back for a second round. The 26th entry in the relaunched series comes courtesy of Down 2 Earth, the Bay Area trio last featured with the reader-approved Only Competition. On Premonitions, partners-in-rhyme Azure, Dayvid Michael and Clyde Shankle (in that order) showcase their formidable mic skills over a bell-laced boom-bap beat created in-house. Fred Lozano provides original artwork to accompany the freestyle.

By the end of August, Down 2 Earth will release their highly-anticipated debut mixtape, Wildfire. Before that, though, they plan to liberate two new music videos.
