Earl Sweatshirt - Chum (Left Brain Remix)

Posted 2 years ago
Producer:
Left Brain

Earl Sweatshirt‘s first release since returning from his stint at a Samoan boarding school, Doris lead single Chum was a striking change of pace from his debut EP. On the track, he cast his diabolical persona aside to offer some real talk about his family life and his ambivalent attitude toward the music game. Nearly two years later, we get a second look at the record courtesy of Odd Future colleague Left Brain. Here, Earl’s own piano-loop boardwork (created under his randomblackdude alias) is switched out for a hazier arrangement driven by plodding percussion and bleary-eyed synth smears. If this version lacks some of the original‘s punch, it makes up it in atmosphere. Fans can, of course, find the former on Earl’s freshman set, released to record stores and online retailers last summer, and take a look inside his bachelor pad.
