Ghostface ft. Raheem DeVaughn - Baby
When word first got out that Ghostface Killah was planning to release an R&B album, fan reactions were mixed—many doubted the rapper could fine-tune his sung vocals enough to carry a full set. As further details emerged, however, it became clear that The Wizard of Poetry would still be a rap album—Ghostface will simply be spitting over slower beats than usual, and will be joined by some of the biggest names in today’s R&B game. For an idea of the LP’s style, take a listen to potential single Baby, which finds the one-time playboy settled down with one woman and preparing for a new addition to the family—whether they end up with a boy or a girl, they know the newborn will inherit its parents’ best qualities. A few might criticize Raheem DeVaughn‘s use of Auto-Tune ( “He doesn’t need it!”), but the singer’s smooth, studio-enhanced vocals sound right at home over Rashad‘s mellow boardwork. If Baby is any indication, The Wizard of Poetry (set to drop September 29th) will prove once and for all that Ghostface can venture out, try new things, and make grown-man music without “selling out”.
