GoldLink - Electronic Relaxation

Posted 3 years ago
Producer:
Ta-Ku

Though J. Cole recently brought the sample back into the public consciousness with Forbidden Fruit, a Kendrick Lamar-assisted standout off his sophomore set, he’s only the latest of many to draw inspiration from jazz veteran Ronnie Foster’s Mystic Brew. Most famously, its languid, jazzy groove was the backbone of Electric Relaxation, part of A Tribe Called Quest’s classic Midnight Marauders LP. Premiered on Thursday, via Pigeons & Planes, the latest single (and debut DJBooth feature) from GoldLink acknowledges its debt to the Golden Age crew in its title: Electronic Relaxation. The Virginia emcee clearly has a different definition of “relaxation” than Q-Tip and company, though; his brash, unpredictable flows and Ta-Ku‘s jittery percussion rhythms combine to form a joint that’s more hype than mellow. Digging it? Then stay tuned; this promo cut is unattached to any forthcoming project, but we’ll keep you posted on GoldLink’s plans as further details emerge.
