Jabee ft. Carlitta Durand - Stephanie

Posted 3 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
EL-P
Album:
None (Promo Single)

Brace yourself, Booth readers; sh*t’s about to get ugly… super ugly. Not featured on the solo tip since dropping off For Real in early July, OK City repper Jabee returns to eviscerate his opponents on freshly-minted promo single Stephanie. (Before you ask, no, I don’t know what’s up with the title.) El-P sets the mood for lyrical carnage on the production tip, layering rapid-fire vocal samples and orchestral hits over a fuzzed out bassline and syncopated percussion. Over the Def Jux doyen’s noised-up beat, Jabee charts his growth from a ‘hood youth steeped in the language and ideas of the African-American Civil Rights Movement to a mic-murdering juggernaut with a personal vendetta against wack emcees. R&B singer Carlitta Durand completes the picture with a caustic, yet smooth guest hook. Feeling it? You’ll be able to cop this cut, along with a remix featuring multiple special guests, when the 7” vinyl single drops next month.
