DJBooth Freestyle Series (#17)

Oft imitated but never equaled, the DJBooth Freestyle Series ran from February 2009 through June 2011. Its 250 total entries were the work of a veritable who’s-who of underground and emerging emcees, including rising stars like Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. Now, it’s back for a second round. The 17th entry in the relaunched series comes courtesy of Joyner Lucas, the Worcester, MA native whose five previous DJBooth features, which include “F**k Your Feelings” and “Jurisdiction,” have all been highly-rated by our site members. On Don’t Ask for Nothin, Khep’ whimsical, underwater-synth production backs Lucas, who wastes no time after his DJBooth shout-out jumping right into the freestyle. Fred Lozano provides original artwork to accompany the release. Feeling it? Then stay tuned; Lucas is preparing to release his new album, Along Came Joyner, later this spring.
