Manic Mondays (#21)

Throughout his Manic Mondays series, K. Sparks has shown a willingness to tackle lyrical concepts that would make lesser emcees weep.  He’s rapped his way through the Dictionary, spit about Hip Hop as a whole, and even pondered the question of life’s Purpose.  Installment number 21, however, may be the Queens native’s most ambitious offering yet – how many other emcees would release a record simply titled Music?  True to form, Sparks doesn’t worry too much about making a universal statement, instead addressing the subject in the circuitous, reference-heavy manner that made him a Booth favorite to begin with.  Another of the emcee’s strengths is on full display here: namely, his ability to select jazzy beats that incorporate the best of the old and new school – Presto‘s combination of burbling bass and mellow horn hits all the right notes.  Music is another link in Sparks’ yet-unbroken chain of dope records – with a hot streak of 21 songs and counting, it’s no wonder the emcee considers himself a Rap Savior.
