The Résumé

Mari-i-i-a, Chaundon just met a girl named Maria…” Sorry, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to drop a little West Side Story on y’all. And the narrative that unfolds over the course of up-and-coming producer KVBeats’ first feature does bear a few similarities to the classic musical, minus the finger-snapping gangsters and tragic ending. Leaked this past summer but currently being promoted as a single, Maria finds the Copenhagen, Denmark-based beatsmith cooking up a mellow, sampled backdrop (with a dope Latin-guitar breakdown on the back) as the NYC native recounts his blossoming romance with a beautiful “Puerto Rican princess” from the Lower East Side. After a chance encounter on the street, they bond over consecutive nights of deep conversation, Telemundo and Spanish cussing; by the end of the record, their relationship is going so well that the Bronx emcee’s seriously considering going shopping for a ring. Digging this laid-back chronicle of summer love? More dope beats and Booth-approved guests await on KVBeats’ The Résumé LP, out now in stores and online.
