Through Ludacris has long been regarded as a dark horse contender for best rapper alive, the so-so quality of recent material has led some (including our own Nathan S.) to speculate the he may have—dare I say it—fallen off. But the A-Town vet is having none of it. On the latest single off his perhaps pointedly-titled pre-album mixtape, I Don’t Give a F**k, he warns the opinionated that they’d best keep his name out their mouths. Why? ‘Cause he was Raised in the motherf**king South. No, I have no idea how that follows either, but what this record lacks in logical argumentation, it makes up for in sheer intensity. Over Metro‘s slow-burning street boardwork, Luda makes clear that he means business, filleting his competition in forcefully-flowed verses. Complete with a gruff middle 16 by fellow Southern heavyweight Young Jeezy, this is just one of many bangers to be found on the aforementioned street album. Neither it nor forthcoming full-length Ludaversal but, as always, fans can keep it locked for all the latest.
