Lupe Fiasco - #DopeFrancis (American Trap)

Mr. Inkredible
Peace of Paper/Cup of Jayzus

I’m not sure whether hell has frozen over but, If I peeked out my window, I bet I’d see a pig or two silhouetted against the clouds. Now that Lupe Fiasco‘s become a trap rapper, I feel like absolutely anything could happen. OK, as you may have surmised, there’s more to new single #DopeFrancis (American Trap) than meets the ear. Though Mr. Inkredible‘s production sounds like it’s straight out a contemporary street banger, the Windy City mainstay’s block talk isn’t what it initially seems. In the guise of slinging crack, he’s pushing faith in a higher power: “God is dope / Muhammad my connect.” The concept is certainly intriguing, but does the record come together in practice? As always, I leave it to y’all to lay down the final verdict. #DopeFrancis is part of the cryptically titled Peace of Paper/Cup of Jayzus, which as yet lacks a drop date. Keep it locked to our front page for further details on the set as they emerge.
