Bang Ya Head 3

On his last featured cut, MED schooled heads on “Where [He’s] From,” rhapsodizing in detail about the sights, sounds and surrounds of his formative years. Well aware that nostalgia for the past shouldn’t be allowed to occlude one’s view of the present, however, the Oxnard repper administers a reality check on his latest mixtape single, informing me you, himself, and anyone else who will listen: “This is Your Life.” Boy Meets World beatsmith Exile produces, crafting a dreamy vintage-school groove (adorned with vocal samples from Statik Selektah‘s Follow Me, the D&D All-Stars’ 1, 2 Pass and more) as MED mixes lyrical reflection with abstract poetry and a dash of tightly-wound braggadocio: “West Coast rider, now your’re notified, if MED’s not the best then the spot ain’t notified.” Fellow Cali underground mainstay Blu drops in for a guest verse, flaunting his Jesus piece and his facility with free-associative wordplay on the back. So, how about it: need more MED in Your Life? If so, you’ll find what you seek on Bang Ya Head 3, out April 26, via Fat Beats Distro. Also, watch for his sophomore full-length to hit stores in late spring/early summer via Stones Throw.
