Usually when I see the words “new Ray J” a Hip-Hop head like me might immediately put the song on the back burner, but hold your horses folks. While his fifth album, Raydiation, still doesn’t have a release date, single Bananas could just be the first hit of the album. Produced by Rico Love, who is responsible for DJBooth chart topper Motivation by Kelly Rowland, the track gives off a typical R&B/pop vibe that can easily comparable to the top tunes at radio right now. While some might laugh at the sped up chipmunk hook declaring that the sex is, indeed, “bananas,” there are some real high points to the record; Ray J’s singing is far for the course and Love compliments his own production well with a 16 bar verse at the tail song. Lets be honest, Bananas is one of those songs that I’m sure sounds better blasting at club speakers than your computer speakers. Even if it is closely reminiscent to Keri Hilson’s Turning Me On, go ahead and give Ray J a chance!
