Rockie Fresh - Otherside

Featuring:
Producer:
The Cartoonz
Album:
The Otherside

When I first heard that DJBooth Freestyle Alum Rockie Fresh had paid tribute to Jim Morrison on his new mixtape release Otherside I was ecstatic. The Doors are tragically underappreciated by hip-hop’s finest. Unfortunately it turns out that this Otherside has nothing to do with that To The Otherside – but a Red Hot Chili Peppers sample ain’t so bad either. Fresh off rhyming about noted NBA virgin A.C. Green, Rockie goes right back in on The Cartoonz otherworldly, rock-influenced beat, laying down the song’s succeed at all costs theme with unshakably solid lines: “All my life I’ve been picked on, slept on, stared at / however I refuse to be stepped on”. Top things off with some vocals from relative newcomer Rich Hil, whose vocals emphasize the cut’s ambient feel, and Rockie may have just created a song that will help him break on through the wall of mediocre music currently blocking so many quality musician’s paths. (“Break on through”? Get it? Never mind.) For more fresh - pun intended - music from Rockie, be sure to check out Otherside, the album, dropping tomorrow, December 16.
