Sugar Tongue Slim (STS) ft. Dayne Jordan & DJ Jazzy Jeff - How Philly Use to Sound

Posted about 2 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
DJ Jazzy Jeff
Album:
None (Promo Single)

Today, the phrase “Philadelphia hip-hop” brings to mind Roc-A-Fella alumni like Freeway, Beanie Sigel and Chris & Neef, along with the more experimental sounds of The Roots. Before any of them, however, the City of Brotherly Love was a hotbed of the kind of old-school, feel-good music epitomized by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. On his latest promo single, local phenom STS gives us a little taste of How Philly Use to Sound, with help from the veteran DJ whose name I dropped in that last sentence. Backed by Steve McKie and Corey Bernhard‘s wistful strings and keyboard chords, Slim waxes nostalgic about a past era, long “before they threw the Roc up, before they shot the block upDayne Jordan assists on the guest tip. This joint is just a loosie, but fans should keep it locked for the latest leading up to the unscheduled release of STS’s next project, WHITEGOLD.
