Tayyib Ali - Dear Lord

Posted 4 years ago
Producer:
Jahlil Beats
Album:
TBD (Promo Single)

As Kanye West so famously pointed on Jesus Walks, while songs about massive drug use, unapologetic crime, illicit sex and domineering abuse are considered just another day in hip-hop, a rapper who mentions his faith will find himself fighting one of hip-hop’s last taboos. Thankfully that’s a battle Tayyib Ali isn’t afraid to fight on his new single Dear Lord (making its world premiere right now), which finds the Philly native looking to the heavens for help through the myriad obstacles confronting him. While a fittingly soulful instrumental from Jahlil Beats plays in the background, Ali offers up a lyrical prayer on behalf of everyone working more than a 9-to-5 just to survive: “Hustle all the time just tryin to get it right / I pray to God that we make it through the night.” Amen, you can say that again. While Ali is still deciding whether this soul-searching joint will find a home on his upcoming, currently-untitled album, fans of the PA emcee’s work can surely look forward to more heavenly hip-hop from Ali soon.
