T.I. ft. Skylar Grey - New National Anthem

It appears T.I. reads our Twitter timeline.  In the opening lines of his latest work, New National Anthem, the Grand Hustle head honcho says it best: “I know radio prolly aint gonna play this.” No, the radio is not going to touch what is a very radio-friendly-sounding record, which features frequent Eminem collaborator Skylar Grey. But the radio doesn’t need to play a record for an artist to make an impact in 2014. Having been embroiled in his own legal battles over the years, T.I. understandably has a very strong opinion about what it means to be a Black male living in the United States. On the song’s poignant hook, we’re reminded that America is the “Home of the brave and free,” which means that police shouldn’t be “free just to murder me.” Now, more than a week following the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, artists with plenty to lose are standing up for what they believe is right.
