Soul Mates Series

When you think about all the dope collaborations that never went down simply because the artists weren’t alive and making music at the same time, it kinda breaks your heart. With his newly-launched Soul Mates series, producer Amerigo Gazaway intends to give listeners a glimpse at what might have been. The inaugural entry, Inner City Travelin’ Man, comes courtesy of Yasiin Gaye—that is, veteran emcee Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) and legendary soul man Marvin Gaye. Deconstructed samples of Gaye’s many classics form the instrumental backdrop for bars borrowed from Travelin’ Man, a 1999 cut with DJ Honda. If you’re feeling this innovative mash-up, stay tuned. We in the Booth will keep you supplied with further Soul Mates highlights in the coming weeks.
