YOG$ - A Summer’s Night

Posted 3 years ago

When I think of A Summer’s Night, ”balmy,” “relaxing” and perhaps “romantic” are adjectives that spring to mind. “Eerie?” Not so much. Michigan beatsmith YOG$, however, seems to have a different take. This freshly-minted promo single isn’t exactly what you’d call a conventional warm-weather banger; while the presence of steel drums imbue the record with a slight tropical feel, that vibe is offset by the stark, minimalistic feel of his trap-informed rhythm section, as well as the cavernous effects (including croaking frogs) that drift in and out of the mix. The result is a moody, aurally-adventurous jam better suited for a headphone session than an evening at the beach. This loosie was released in support of YOG$‘s Everyday Vacation LP, which is scheduled for release October 1. In the meantime, fans can still stream his last project, the Ambient Pack, for free in the Booth.
