Yonas Michael - Great Western Forum

Producer:
Kavinsky
Album:
The Mixtape Before Blvck Swan Theory

There’s something inside you…it’s hard to explain. They’re talking about you boy, but you’re still the same.” That’s the chorus on Kavinsky’s Nightcall, and while I’ve heard it several times, I haven’t been able to figure out what it really means. If only someone like Yonas Michael would rhyme over the beat and flesh the song out; yeah that’d be pretty nice. Oh, that’s exactly what he’s done with Great Western Forum? Excellent. Over the course of the record, Yonas details how he ended up in Los Angeles and that while we’re familiar with him through music, that is only because his basketball dreams didn’t materialize. The accompanying video, directed by The White Buffalo, with cinematography help from Aaron Shapiro & Reno Ca$h, is as enigmatic as Yonas’ raps, ranging from b-ball footage to some priestly confessions. If you like what you’re hearing, Great Western Forum can be found on The Mixtape Before Blvck Swan Theory, presented by Mick Boogie, and available now.
