Yonas - Set It Off

Producer:

Album:

Yonas‘s The Transition mixtape garnered considerable buzz and acclaim when it hit the ‘net in June of 2012, but not nearly as much as it deserved. That’s why, a year and change later, the NYC buzzmaker’s preparing to re-release the set, with a few fresh cuts thrown into the mix. Today, we get our first taste of the previously-unreleased material in the form of Set It Off. Featured front and center right here in the DJBooth, this bombastic cut exudes swagger from every pore. Beatsmith Sean Ross‘s clipped brass fanfare, accented by flutes and sizzling synths, backs the emcee as he touts his realness and mic skills, while fretting that his commitment to truth-telling will send him the way of “2Pac, John Kennedy, Martin Luther [and] Malcolm X.” The Transition (Deluxe Edition) is scheduled to drop Tuesday, November 19, via Fontana Records. In the meantime, you can still stream and download the original for free in the Booth.
