After playing his cards close to his chest over the last few weeks, Kendrick Lamar took to social media in the early hours of this morning to share the official title, artwork, and tracklisting to his next album which, as it turns out, isn’t called ALBUM.
The highly anticipated follow-up to 2015's To Pimp a Butterfly is in fact titled DAMN. and includes three guest appearances from Rihanna (“LOYALTY.”) Zacari (“LOVE.”) and U2 (“XXX.”), the latter of whom appeared in the recently leaked album credits. On the production side, we already know the likes of Mike WiLL Made It, 9th Wonder, The Alchemist, Sounwave and Cardo are involved.
5 New Albums You Need to Hear This Week on Audiomack
CDQ, Demarco, Bktherula, Lavida Loca, and 5an have albums you need this week on Audiomack.
DAMN. clocks in at 14 songs, including “HUMBLE.,” which just became the highest debuting rap single since 2010. Elsewhere, song titles like "BLOOD.," DNA." and GOD." appear to back up Kendrick's recent comments about this album being "urgent," speaking on God and being focused on his community.
Interestingly, both the album and song titles are all punctuated with a full stop (don’t forget that dot, word to Anderson .Paak). While it may seem like nothing more than an aesthetic choice at first, everything is well thought out when it comes to Kendrick Lamar’s music (remember the braille on the inside cover of To Pimp a Butterfly?)
Whatever it means, all will be revealed this Friday (April 14) at midnight ET when DAMN. "goes live everywhere," according to Apple.
