Lupe Fiasco ft. Ed Sheeran - Old School Love

DJBooth_logo2x

In recent months, we've heard a rejuvenated Lupe Fiasco showcase the cerebral side of his rhyme style in aggressive, tightly-wound jams like SLR 2 and Peace of Paper / Cup of Jayzus. So fans might be a little surprised to find that the newly-released lead single off the Chi-town repper's next LP is a relatively simple, emotionally-driven affair. On Old School Love, Lupe wistfully reflects on the changes hip-hop has gone through since the '80s and '90s, relating the genre's loss of innocence to the crime and struggle currently plaguing his hometown. (Though the Don't Like rapper isn't mentioned by name, listeners will note some parallels to Lupe's “Twitter beef” with Chief Keef late last year.) Waiting on the GOLDRush hookman Ed Sheeran jumps on DJ Frank E's piano-loop beat to deliver a poignant guest chorus. Tetsuo & Youth has yet to receive a drop date, but we'll keep you supplied with the latest news and tunes leading up to its eventual arrival.
