Lupe Fiasco - SLR 2 (Kendrick Response)

Posted about 3 years ago
Producer:
Floss & Fame

On his explosive contribution to Big Sean‘s Control, Kendrick Lamar insisted that his only peers were Jigga, Nas, Eminem and Andre 3000. “The rest of y’all new n**gas just new n**gas, don’t get involved.” With over a decade in the game, four albums under his belt and a reputation for impeccable mic skills, Lupe Fiasco begs to differ. The sequel to an acclaimed mixtape cut released back in November 2010, SLR 2 was created at the urging of the Windy City mainstay’s fans, but there’s nothing perfunctory about the way Wasalu Jaco tears into his target. Over Floss & Fame‘s simmering street boardwork, the rhymesayer reminds Lamar, and listeners, that he’s still a force to be reckoned with, delivering three solid minutes’ worth of head-spinning, wordplay-laced lyrical flames. He even lapses into German to deliver a message from der Führer: “Wie kommt er kann nicht so böse wie Lu bekommen? / That was Adolf, reacting to my new shit / Translation: how come he can’t be as evil as Lu get?“ Has Lupe succeeded in putting K Dot in his place? Your call, readers. This joint comes on the heels of new single #DopeFrancis, featured on our pages earlier this morning.
