Rick Ross & Skrillex’ “Purple Lamborghini” is a Vintage Rozay Banger

Ross' new release is a time machine back to the "BMF" days when he was cranking out banger after banger.

There is a time for everything, and the time for Rick Ross bangers was circa 2010. "BMF," "MC Hammer," "9 Piece," in retrospect he was at the height of his aggressive-yet-lowkey-hilarious banger powers then; big beats, big belly, big voice, for a year or two there the stars aligned and there was no one better to blow out your speakers with than Ross.

Unfortunately the last few years have seen Rozay's banger powers slip. Even Hood Billionaire, a tax write-off album that was supposed to be nothing but street bangers failed to produce a real anthem. But "Purple Lamborghini," the new release off the Suicide Squad soundtrack? This here has me feeling like I hopped into a DeLorean and crashed a Rick Ross studio session circa 2011.

To be sure, this isn't 2011, not with Skrillex on production. If I'm keeping it 100, I'm not a huge fan of that dubstep beat breakdown in the middle section - I just can't hear any of that typical dubstep without thinking about that Key & Peele skit. But on the whole the beat is a vintage Ross banger, and if that name Skrillex puts a shirtless Rick Ross in front of 50,000 kids wearing daisy crowns at a European EDM festival, that image alone is worth it.

The larger point is that we've got Ross lying about being a drug kingpin and lurking in a purple Lamborghini, which might literally be the worst vehicle you could possibly choose to do your lurking in. In other words, it's one of the most purely entertaining Ross bangers I've heard in a long time, maybe even since the Golden Age of Ross Bangers. Those were the days, and at least right here, right now, they're back.
