Kendrick Lamar's already Platinum-certified DAMN. stands as the lone contender (so far) for album of the year, but according to the artist himself, it almost had a different title.

In a new interview with Big Boy, Lamar revealed that the original title of the album was What Happens on Earth, Stays on Earth but it was scrapped because it was too long.

Of course, the alternative album title appears on "FEAR.," when Kendrick says, "Fear, what happens on Earth stays on Earth / And I can't take these feelings with me / So hopefully they disperse."

As for the actual title of the album, Kendrick's explanation is rather straightforward. "[It's] from the concept damned if I do, damned if I don't," said Kendrick. "The loudness of the record. It screamed that in my face. When I think of 'DNA.' and I think of 'HUMBLE.,' when I think of about these records, it just felt like that."

Just because DAMN. wasn't the original title, however, doesn't mean Kendrick didn't have a plan in place for the album since its inception. Read Kendrick's response to our analysis of DAMN. here.
