Meet Glass Animals

I feel like I say this each Meet piece ( or at least every other) but this is my favorite discovery of the year. Don't get me wrong, I still love Caitlyn Scarlett and St. Paul And The Broken Bones, but Glass Animals is far and away my favorite. It might change next week (as it always seems to) but for now, ALL I am listening to is Glass Animals. I'm not joking, their Zaba album has been the only one getting spins for the last five days and counting. You need to check them out.

This British quartet have an incredible sound! So rich, so engaging, and so diverse. I can't get over how varied their sound its. At times some of it is almost Weeknd-ish, only to have the next song to have a totally different vibe (a la The Flaming Lips or Foster The People). I am, always sharing music with my friends, giving them suggestions based on what I know they like. Well, at one point or another in Zaba, I have thought about each and every one of my friends; these guys are so colorful and diverse.

Their sound has some obvious electronic undertones, but it's not overwhelming and is balanced nicely by some imaginative instrumentals. Also helping ground their sound in the indie genre is the voice of lead singer, Dave Bayley; dude's voice is hypnotic. The thing I love most about it is, where most bands are so vocal-focused, Bayley's vocals blend in well with the instrumentals. They don't stand out as much as say St. Paul and The Broken Bones, but they aren't supposed to. Instead, they are part of the whole, tucked right in with the instrumentals to create their intoxicating atmosphere. It's hard to believe this is their debut album because each layer and sound blend so well one another. Take a listen to "Coca Hooves" and I think you'll see what I'm saying.

And if you thought their sound was inventive, wait until you see some of their videos (plus the artwork). This quartet leaks creativity from their pores.Y

Oh and for all you hip-hop producers and emcees, there is so much here for you. Some of these instrumentals scream sample. I wouldn't consider them hip-hop in the least but, but their sound translates very well. At times, you could even throw in a few trap "YEAHS" and it would fit right in.

Just don't sample "Coca Hooves" because Jez Dior already did on "Hide" and I doubt it can get much better.

Okay, so I'm done trying to predict which Meet's will end up being best of the year nominees-it seems like every week a new one springs up-so instead, I'll just say that the past five days have been some of the best of the year for me musically, and it's solely because of Glass Animals. Normally, these Meet bands take up most of my time, but I still sprinkle other stuff in around it. I have had no desire to listen to anything other than Glass Animals.

Yup, I'm addicted...
