Earl Sweatshirt ft. Vince Staples - Burgundy
With his major-label debut just a week and change away from release, Earl Sweatshirt is stoking the flames of anticipation with yet another fresh record off the project. Whereas the Odd Future lyricist’s last feature, Hive, showcased a more gritty, aggressive side of Earl’s lyrical persona, album standout Burgundy has more in common with the emotionally raw Chum. In an opening 16 which he recently announced via Twitter was his favorite verse that he’s written to date, the artist offers a little insight into the personal turmoil that’s been vying with his impending LP drop for his attention: “Grandma’s passing / But I’m too busy tryna get this f**kin’ album cracking to see her.” Joining the headliner over The Neptunes’ brass fanfare, Hive collaborator Vince Staples gives voice to the emcee’s insecurities in the spoken-word interludes that separate the verses. Feeling it? More awaits on Doris, dropping next Tuesday (8/20) via Tan Cressida/Columbia Records.
