The Warm Up Mixtape

With Jay-Z‘s impending departure from Def Jam, Roc-A-Fella will officially cease to exist, and its place will be taken by the new ROC Nation.  Fayetteville, North Carolina rapper J. Cole, the first signee to the replacement label is ready to go national with the Tar Heel State’s catchy underground sound.  On Grown Simba, a new joint off the forthcoming sequel to his ‘08 Come Up mixtape (hosted by DJ On Point of Joe Budden Mood Muzik fame), Cole reflects back on all that’s happened since he first announced his intent to take over the game.  The combination of Cole’s sharp punchlines and smooth piano/sample beat should bring listeners back to when a certain college dropout-turned-Roc producer first hit the mic in ‘04, and if this is any indicator of the direction S-Dot’s going with with ROC Nation, then this fledgling label may well be destined to become the next dynasty.
