K. Sparks - Feminization

Posted 2 years ago
Producer:
Fero Navi

Some social issues are so sharply-defined that even a mediocre emcee can write rhymes about them. It takes a lyricist as gifted as K. Sparks, on the other hand, to spit about a topic as underappreciated and loaded with nuance as the one he tackles on his latest single. Over Fero Navi‘s tense strings, the Queens phenom draws attention to the Feminization of black men in popular culture, asking (as Dave Chappelle did in a 2011 interview) why black male celebrities are so frequently shown in drag for laughs. New Mask Media‘s accompanying visuals offer numerous examples of the trope. Sparks’s Vintage Art LP has, sadly, been pushed to September 2, but the conversation sparked by this record will go a long way toward keeping fans busy in the meantime.
